Allerton Castle wedding photography: a Spring wedding

Joleen and Toby finally struck gold at their beautiful wedding at Allerton Castle – a stunning Grade I listed nineteenth-century Gothic stately home in North Yorkshire.

From the splendid backdrop of its beautiful gardens to the opulent, sweeping staircase in the Great Hall, Allerton Castle is a truly elegant wedding venue and a gem of a place to get married.

The fabulous couple first got together while studying geology at the University of Manchester and it wasn’t long on their wedding day before guests regaled tales of their fruitless gold-finding techniques during explorations of Guyana, Burkina Faso, Mali and the Republic of Congo.

But they were blessed with better fortune at their early Spring wedding in March as the previous week’s heavy snow cleared to leave a relatively clear, if a little cloudy, Spring day with just a few puddles remaining.

Joleen is from County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland and she certainly delivered a touch of Irish flair to the wedding, arriving from the Castle’s Tudor Suite down the staircase to Enya’s ‘May it be’ – that beautiful ballad you hear in 2001 film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

She looked simply stunning in her Ronald Joyce wedding dress, with a handmade bridal cape by Joana Bridal Boutique in Harrogate and Jimmy Choo heels. Her hair styled to perfection by Lauren and her team at Baroque Harrogate.

Joleen was joined by her lovely sister Shauneen as maid of honour, with bridesmaids Jemima, Darcey, Lauren, Rasia, Natalie and Leann.

Her flowers were by Twisted Willow, who never fail with their stunning displays and bouquets – a gorgeous blend of pink roses and eucalyptus and succulents – there was also floral help by the groom’s mother, too.

Waiting for Joleen to arrive, Toby – in his French Connection suit – looked calm and somewhat different to our previous encounter. I had photographed the wedding of his brother Oliver – Toby’s best man – when he tied the knot at Woburn Abbey and Toby’s hair was in a ponytail then – appropriate hair for a man who used to be in three heavy metal bands!

Following the ceremony, the couple and their 100 wedding guests enjoyed phenomenal food and service from Taste Cuisine with no stone left unturned with their incredible attention to detail.

Proving Toby hasn’t completely lost his passion for heavy metal – the couple’s first dance was to a cover of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters, sung amazingly by a talented 10-year-old girl called Jadyn Rylee.

And, returning to Joleen’s Irish roots, the wedding party were entertained in the evening by The Mightys – an Irish Folk and traditional five-piece band – before dancing the night away to music by their DJ, The Flying Scotsman.

An Allerton Castle wedding is always a joy to photograph and the stunning misty sunset delivered a brilliant opportunity for memorable photography – a fitting end to a wonderful occasion.

Delighted that Joleen and Toby enjoyed working with Ryan Browne Photography as much as we enjoyed capturing their special day.

“We’d like to thank you so much for capturing our day so wonderfully. You truly are very talented – we love all of the photographs! You’ve left us with some beautiful memories from our day and we couldn’t be happier with the quality and detail of your work.”
