Newburgh Priory in Coxwold, North Yorkshire is a glorious setting for a wedding – located just below Sutton Bank with the famous White Horse of Kilburn overlooking its lake and wonderful landscaped gardens.
Founded as a monastery in 1145, Newburgh Priory is a stately home surrounded by acres of picturesque scenery and ancient woodlands.
It was the perfect venue for Emma and Thomas to get married on a glorious, sunny day.
The day began at Newburgh House, a gorgeous family-run B&B made of Georgian stone covered with creepers and surrounded by a pretty walled garden.
Just a stone’s throw away from the Priory, it was the ideal place for Emma’s all important wedding preparations, alongside maid of honour Laura and bridesmaids Fiona, Katie and Lizzy.
Emma looked amazing in her Maggie Sottero dress from the Harrogate Wedding Lounge and complemented by lovely hair by Fabienne Astley and perfect make up by Natasha of Yorkshire Hair and Make-Up.
Bouquets, and the button holes, were the handy work of Bloomerang Flowers.
The couple chose a humanist ceremony and a marquee reception which suited the venue perfectly and gave the day a wonderfully personal and serene feel.
Decorations in the marquee and the Priory ruins were made by family and friends, and flowers and trees were supplied by Braithwaites garden centre.
I always enjoy quirky and individual touches at weddings and Emma (a northerner) and Tom (a southerner) played up to the traditional North vs South rivalries with funny signposts and quotes featuring at the wedding.
My particular favourite…. ‘scones made by southerners vs scones made by northerners’.
Emma first met Thomas at her sister’s wedding back in 2009. Tom went to university with Emma’s sister (the maid of honour) and her husband (the best man).
The pair gave speeches, as did Emma’s Dad Miles and the best man and best woman, all to rapturous applause.
Food during the reception was provided by Frytons, the bar by Speakeasy Libations and cakes were made by friends and family.
Their first dance was to ‘First Day of My Life’ by Bright Eyes and evening entertainment was in the form of The Fabulous BB Kings who had everyone up on to the dancefloor for the rest of the evening.
A fantastic couple, a lovely personal wedding, sunshine all day and lots of laughter – a wonderful occasion to photograph.
